2010 Kansas City Chiefs Preview

It seems like the worst is over for the Kansas City Chiefs. They have won just ten games over the last three seasons, but with new coordinators and upgraded personnel they should start to climb out of the AFC West Cellar. If they don’t a new head man must be found. I am not saying they are Super Bowl contenders, just another team that has rebuilt itself from the cellar dwellers of the NFL. I see them as an 8-8 team that should be able to compete in most games.

Sure Charlie Weis will step in as the OC, but Matt Cassel is still the QB and I do not expect much to change in their offensive attack. I am pretty high on their backfield duo of Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles. The WR crops is made up of Chris Chambers, Dwayne Bowe, Dexter McCluster, and TE Leonard Pope. Of course they did add Tony Moeaki in the draft as a pass catching TE. The added two veterans to the O line, but they still feel like an under performing unit.

This team has made a big investment in their D Line, and I see no return on that yet. Since they did not address it in the off season they seem to be willing to give this unit another chance. The LB corps is ok, but still below the average for this league. They drafted Eric Berry with their top draft pick and he will start at Free Safety. With Jarrad Page gone at Strong Safety the Chiefs will need Jon McGraw to step up.

On Special Teams Ryan Succop will be the kicker, with Dustin Colquitt handling the punting duties. It looks like Javier Arenas will return punts with McCluster returning kicks.
