Michael Cera Doesn’t Think ‘Superbad 2’ Is ‘Necessary’

Michael Cera doesn’t believe Superbad 2 is really “necessary.”

Fans are probably still hoping that director Gregg Mottola will get the gang back together for a sequel to the hit 2007 comedy. Should someone decide to move forward with the project, they may have to do it without the Scott Pilgrim vs. the World star’s blessing.

During his recent chat with the folks at Screen Rant, Michael Cera suggested that he’s not too thrilled with the idea of a Superbad sequel. According to the actor, no one has mentioned doing a follow-up.

“I personally don’t like sequels, but the idea has never been discussed. I think it’s not really necessary for that story. But I don’t think people make sequels because they’re necessary. I think there are other reasons,” Cera told the website.

It would appear that someone has been keeping the Arrested Development actor out of the loop. Worst Previews points out that James Franco and Seth Rogen previously discussed doing a Superbad and Pineapple Express crossover at one point. This project obviously never came together.

Michael Cera is currently promoting his latest quirky comedy Crystal Fairy. The actor stars as Jamie, a guy who is on a quest for a magical cactus with hallucinogenic properties. His journey for the ultimate high is complicated by the arrival of a strange woman named Crystal Fairy (Gaby Hoffmann).

When asked if he was trying to be taken more seriously as an actor with his latest role, Cera told Metro that he was just looking to work with people who had similar interests.

“It’s one of the great things about being involved in this business, that you can meet people who are so talented, whose stuff you admire, who you can potentially work with,” he explained.
