2010 Denver Broncos Preview

I don’t see how anyone can be high on the Denver Broncos in 2010. When I look over this team I see a Head Coach who acts like he is the smartest guy in the room. I see a team that does not have the right personnel to run the 3-4 defense, and a team that has hurled away talented players with almost reckless abandon. The latest to leave town was 2009 second round draft pick CB Alphonso Smith. At the very least we can say that he was not going to make this team, and they did get something in return for him.

It looks like the offense will be led by Kyle Orton. This offense will be set back by injuries to two of their top 2010 draft picks. Wide out Demaryius Thomas and RB Knowshon Moreno have suffered pre-season injuries. Hopefully they both make it back for week one on the regular season. This still seems to be an offense that is rebuilding. They have a lot of pieces and now they need to shake that out and see who makes it and who doesn’t.

Beyond CB Champ Bailey, and Safety Brian Dawkins the Broncos defense really is a no name defense. I remain unconvinced that they have the right mix of player to properly execute the 34 defense. The D line is set, but they feel more average than anything else. The biggest impact player there is NT Jamal Williams. Really this is a team decimated by injuries, and it looks like OLB Elvis Dumervil will end up on the IR list, ending his 2010 season before it even began.

On Special Teams Matt Prater will be the kicker, with Britton Colquitt handling the punting duties. Eddie Royal will probably return kicks and punts with Perrish Cox pitching in there as well.
