Lawrence Taylor’s Son Charged With Statutory Rape

Powder Springs, GA — The son of NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor has been arrested for statutory rape and other alleged sex crimes.

Lawrence J. Taylor, Jr. was taken into custody early Sunday morning for allegedly forcing himself on an underage girl on Saturday. According to TMZ, the younger Taylor allegedly performed oral sex on the woman against her will at his house in the Atlanta area. A second minor girl at the residence allegedly told police that she had sex with Taylor several times in February 2012.

Taylor, 31, has been charged with statutory rape, sodomy, and child molestation, the New York Daily News reports, and is currently being held in Cobb County Jail without bail.

If convicted on any of these felony charges, Taylor — who goes by T.J. — could face serious jail time. Statutory rape in Georgia carries a sentence of up to 20 years; a guilty finding on any of the other two charges could result in 25 years to life.

The elder Taylor, the former New Giants superstar known to NFL football fans as L.T., pled guilty in 2011 to sexual misconduct and patronizing a prostitute, both misdemeanors, and is considered a low-risk sex offender under the law. He is also serving six years probation on these charges. The woman involved in that incident who was allegedly underage sued Taylor in civil court but a jury rejected her claims.

Considered one of the greatest defensive players in NFL history, L.T. played for the Giants from 1981 to 1993 and is a two-time Super Bowl champion and ten-time Pro Bowler. He was presented by his son during the 1999 Pro Football Hall of Fame induction ceremonies.

L.T. has as yet not made an official statement about his son’s arrest for rape, and although very concerned for his son, he is reportedly gathering information as what happened in this incident before commenting publicly.
