ET Needs New Fact Checkers & More

According to the current, swirling counter-gossip, ET blundered forward with their “Angelina Jolie Gives Birth” story despite finding out that their source was actually impersonating her assistant.

For a show with one of the most steadfast bunch of viewers in the biz and a following to prove it, it looks like they are going to have to find a new fact-checking squad. Despite denying that they knew an impostor had been involved before airing the story, reports point to the contrary.

Right now, the news is that after Associated Press picked up on the tip that day, it was discovered that source tips weren’t from Angelina’s real assistant, and that information was supposedly passed along to Entertainment Tonight. ET went ahead to break the story to 6.6-ish million viewers.

After the info was refuted by Angelina’s real assistant, ET deleted the story off of their website. Interestingly, the site also went through “technical difficulties” around the same time. Regardless of what really went down, this sounds like a big clusterf*ck. Methinks ET will be treading lightly from now on regarding Brangelina tips.

ET stated that they are “actively investigating” the hoax.
