Robert Griffin III Marries College Sweetheart

Washington Redskins Quarterback Robert Griffin III has had one heck of a year. The rookie started for his new team and made quite the showing. Griffin was awarded the NFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year Award. He lead the Redskins to their first division title in more than ten years. The only sour note on Griffin’s resume is that he was forced out of the Redskin’s wild card game after a knee injury. Well now he is added a wedding to his list of accomplishments.

On Saturday, Robert Griffin III married his college sweetheart, Rebecca Liddicoat, in a Denver ceremony. The two had been engaged since October 2010. They met at Baylor University, where Griffin had been an all star quarterback.

Washington Redskins Coach, Mike Shanahan, Owner Daniel Snyder and backup quarterback Kirk Cousins were all on hand to join RGIII in the festivities. His old coach from Baylor University, Art Biles was also there to join in. Shanahan was a welcome guest back in Denver, having been the coach of the Denver Broncos when they won two superbowls during his tenure from 1995-2008. Shanahan hosted the rehearsal dinner at one of his Denver steak houses on Thursday night.

Briles, sent out this tweet with a picture of himself and the quarterback.

Griffin himself was all over Twitter all day, happily expressing his love for Liddicoat and talking about his big day.

The couple decided to wed in Denver because it is Rebecca Liddicoat’s home town. The couple, being engaged for a number of years, tried to keep the wedding plans somewhat secret to avoid a throng of fans. Now that the big day was upon us, several fans booked tickets so they could stand outside the hall and try to get a glimpse of the happy couple.
