Sophia Loren To Star In Son’s New Movie

Sophia Loren may soon head back to the silver screen.

The film icon hasn’t done much acting lately but she is set to star in her son’s new movie La Voce Umana (The Human Voice). The movie is based on a play by Jean Cocteau and will be directed by Loren’s son, Eduardo Ponti.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that news of Sophia Loren’s return to movies was first reported by an Italian newspaper. The star hasn’t confirmed her involvement in the movie yet but she is reportedly set to start shooting soon in Rome.

Loren hasn’t done a major movie role since 2004’s Peperoni ripieni e pesci in faccia (Too Much Romance … It’s Time For Stuffed Peppers). She has had a few bit parts over the years. Her last screen appearance was three years ago in the Italian television movie La mia casa e’ piena di specchi (My House if Full of Mirrors).

Loren started her career in the 1950s and is often regarded as one of the sexiest Hollywood icons of all-time. Of course, Loren is much more than just a pretty face. She has been nominated for two Oscars. She won the Academy Award in 1962 for Two Women and was also given an honorary Oscar in 1991.

La Voce Umana is expected to start shooting this month. Sophia Loren will join her son for about three weeks to film the new movie in Rome, Naples and the port city Ostia.
