Egyptian leader Mohamed Morsi has been overthrown in Egypt, Al Jazeera is reporting.

Reports out of Egypt on Morsi’s deposal are scant at the moment, with a simple initial bit of coverage on the news network stating:

“The Egyptian army has overthrown President Mohamed Morsi, announcing a roadmap for the country’s political future that will be implemented by a National Reconciliation Committee… The head of the [constitutional] court has been appointed interim head of state.”

Earlier today, Morsi stated that he was prepared to die and previously refused to step down despite massive protests. He said:

I am prepared to sacrifice my blood for the sake of the security and stability of this homeland.

Details of Morsi’s deposal in Egypt have yet to be fully reported, but YourAnonNews tweeted that some indicate the ousted leader has been moved to another location:

Gen. Abdel Fatah al-Sissi announced the ouster of Morsi in a televised address, saying in part:

“The armed forces have tried in recent months, both directly and indirectly, to contain the internal situation and to foster national reconciliation between the political powers, including the presidency… [Morsi] responded with negativity in the final minutes.”

Prior to Morsi’s deposal, presidential aide Essam al-Haddad posted to an official Facebook page:

“As I write these lines I am fully aware that these may be the last lines I get to post on this page… For the sake of Egypt and for historical accuracy, let’s call what is happening by its real name: Military coup.”

Some reports indicate that Morsi is urging civilians to resist the ongoing coup:
