Mariah Carey Lip-Synced? Nick Cannon Defends Wife Before Performance

Mariah Carey is currently embroiled in yet another lip-syncing controversy. Judging from Nick Cannon’s comments before her performance at the BET Awards, he must have felt something stirring in the air.

The singer and former American Idol judge performed the song “Beautiful” at the awards ceremony over the weekend. According to the Los Angeles Times, many people currently believe she didn’t perform the tune live for those in attendance.

Before the BET Awards were underway, Mariah Carey’s husband Nick Cannon came to his wife’s defense. Since she was accused of lip-syncing during her recent performance on American Idol, Cannon decided to address the controversy prior to her latest appearance.

Carey’s spouse explained to E! Online:

My wife is a perfectionist and clearly because she’s done it right all her life. So she actually puts a lot of work into these performances. There’s no management helping make decisions. Everything you see is all her, whether it’s a collaboration when the lights hit, how she enters, she’s doing all of that.

Nick Cannon said Marah Carey fans could expect something “a little extra” from her appearance at the BET Awards. Judging from some of the comments posted on Twitter following her performance of “Beautiful,” that something extra was a pre-recorded vocal track.

“You’re gonna see somethin’ happen. It’s gonna be totally different. She’s gonna turn it up. It’s gonna be the club up in here,” Cannon explained to the website.

While representatives for Mariah Carey have yet to weigh in on the subject as of this writing, this hasn’t stopped a number of people from declaring the singer to be an absolute phony. You can find some of their post-BET Awards comments nestled below.
