2010 College Football Preview: Oregon State Beavers

The Oregon State Beavers will enter the 2010 CFB season as the #15 ranked team according to the Sporting News. Over the last four years this team has managed to win at least eight games, and they are always the school that goes out and beats their expectations. If they do so again they will find themselves playing in the Rose Bowl for the first time since 1964. They may be turning their offense over to sophomore QB Ryan Katz, but the Rodgers brother (both James WR and Jacquizz RB) are returning to wreak more havoc on the schools of the Pac 10.

When I look at their schedule I see a very manageable one. They do play TCU in the season opener, but they should be able to beat up on some of the other Pac 10 schools. The key date may come on September 25th when they travel to Boise State. They get a chance to bounce them out of the national title hunt, and if things go well they can secure a Rose Bowl bid by beating Oregon on the final day of the regular season.

It seems the success of the this team may lay with a rebuilt LB corps. They do run a 4-3 defense, and their next big thing may just be DE Gabe Miller. Many believe this senior is ready for a breakout year after recording 3 sacks a year ago. The upside here is he will play alongside DT Stephen Paea who is just awesome.
