‘Dust 514’ Developer Promises ‘Rapid-Fire Updates’

Dust 514, the free-to-play first-person shooter from Eve Online developer CCP Games, is gearing up for its next major update on July 2, but the developer is promising that more content is in the works – a lot more.

After the release of Dust 514‘s next update, dubbed Uprising, CCP says that the company plans on rolling out updates on a monthly basis to address fan feedback, to squash bugs, and to add in even more content for players to go after.

“We are intensely devoted to delivering the best Dust 514 experience possible,” Atli Mar, creative director on Dust 514, wrote on the game’s website (via Polygon). “Over the next few releases, you’ll see us polish the core gameplay systems (aiming and aim assist, controls, vehicle handling, movement on the battlefield) and improve on context and immersion (getting you into a battle, adding a welcome screen, and more). Planetary Conquest will also be getting a lot of love.”

As noted in the post, Dust 514 patch 1.2 will add in an all-new dropsuit role dubbed the “Commando.” The new role is intended to be a versatile one, allowing players to equip two different light weapons to tackle multiple situations.

Mar also went into detail on what the team has planned for the future of Dust 514. In the works are enhancements to the game’s visual quality, including the implementation of Screen Space Ambient Occlusion (SSAO). Performance enhancements are also being worked on, including smoother “content streaming stability.”

There are, of course, quite a number of tweaks coming to game mechanics as well. Based on player feedback, CCP plans to implement a “Optimal, Effective, and Absolute range” system on all handheld weapons. In other words, don’t expect to be able to dish out maximum damage when firing from ranges outside of the capabilities of your weapon.

Have you had the chance to try out Dust 514 yet? If so, what did you think of it?
