Mom Who Lived In A Storage Locker Trying To Get Her Kids Back

A New Jersey woman who had to live in a storage locker with her two sons a few nights a week is now trying to get her kids back.

Sheena Johnson’s kids were taken away after police found out they were by themselves in the storage locker. The 27-year-old was arrested and charged with criminal mischief and child endangerment.

“They were living in horrible conditions,” Lieutenant Mark Kieffer said. “That’s where their house is – that’s where they’re living. It was just filthy in there.”

The police said the boys were a little dirty but unharmed. They were hungry, so they bought them Mcdonald’s Happy Meals before they were released to social services.

Johnson and her two kids were forced to live in the storage locker a few times a week after she lost her job at a temp agency. She was able to stay at friends’ houses and hotels some nights of the week.

The New Jersey mom said that the storage locker was big enough for all three of them and that they were only there nine hours a day. They bought their meals at Burger King, Wendy’s, and McDonald’s and bathed at friends’ houses.

“They were never any problems; we were just there to rest for the night,” she said. “We had games to play. We entertained each other and even had a portable DVD player.”

A man named Dan Toto bailed Johnson out of jail and is helping her get her kids back. He and fellow Trentonian Olugbala Sababu held a fundraiser for her in Sabubu’s restaurant and raised $6,100. The money will go towards a studio apartment in Trenton for Johnson and her kids.

Do you think Johnson should get her kids back? Or do you believe it was unsafe for her to keep them in a storage locker?
