2013 World’s Ugliest Dog Walle Steps Into Limelight [Video]

The 2013 World’s Ugliest Dog was crowned in the official contest in Petaluma, California on Friday in a surprise announcement that left many people asking the question: “Is this cute mixed-breed 4-year-old really the World’s Ugliest Dog?” Now we have the video evidence needed to honestly answer the question.

As I reported yesterday, winner Walle is a Heinz 57 mongrel or mutt — whichever term you prefer — that includes a mix of beagle, boxer, and bassett. In a contest that has been dominated over the years by Chinese crested breeds or mixes, the 2013 World’s Ugliest Dog definitely stood out from the crowd.

There were some shockingly ugly dogs among the 30 contestants in this year’s anti-beauty pageant. But the humpbacked duck-waddling Walle stole the crown.

Before you rush to judgment and add to the internet outcry of, “But that dog isn’t really all that ugly,” be aware that the judges explained: “This is a dog you have to see move to appreciate his ugly dog status.”

Now the first videos of the 2013 World’s Ugliest Dog Walle are slipping out. What do you think?

It was a tough contest this year. Walle was actually competing against former World’s Ugliest Dog title holders, as well as truly heinous dogs that are remarkably ugly thanks to tiny beady evil eyes, unfortunate rogue whiskers, or because they never put their tongues in.

Some dogs even boasted that they had ugly personalities to match their ugly features. A snaggle-toothed specimen named Gromit, for instance, was described as having a grumpy old man personality.

Lovable Walle can’t compete with that. Maybe the contest needs to add a Miss Anti-Congeniality award.

Here’s another brief video so that you can watch 2013’s World’s Ugliest Dog Walle in motion again:

So what do you think? Would Walle have been your pick for the 2013 World’s Ugliest Dog?
