Dwayne Johnson Might Star In ‘Terminator 5’

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is reportedly being considered for a major role in Terminator 5.

The sequel has been discussed for some time now, though it appears to have picked up quite a bit of cinematic steam over the past few weeks. In fact, the T-800 himself (Arnold Schwarzenegger to the layperson) said filming on the project could begin as early as next year.

According to Uproxx, Dwayne Johnson is being eyed for a lead role in Terminator 5. Since he’s helped reinvigorate a handful of franchises already, producers are reportedly interested in getting his help with the upcoming sequel.

Nothing official about Johnson’s involvement with the follow-up has been officially confirmed. However, The Examiner exclusively reports a version of the script currently floating around Hollywood was specifically written with him in mind.

Dwayne Johnson is jokingly known as “franchise Viagra” in certain circles. He’s involvement with Fast and the Furious, G.I. Joe, and the Journey movies helped them get back on the right track. Moviegoers love the guy, so it’s not surprising his name has been mentioned in the same breathe as Terminator 5. I think he’d be a great addition.

The website also revealed a few details about the movie’s plot. The story is said to chronicle the efforts of another terminator who is sent to murder Sarah Connor’s parents in the 1950s. Arnold Schwarzenegger could possibly portray a human this time around, one who is charged with saving the family from the murderous robot.

This premise is certainly intriguing, and gets the movie away from the futuristic setting found in Terminator Salvation. I like the idea of Connor’s parents being the target, particularly since they will have to fend off this menace using weaponry from that era. Depending on who tackles the project, it could be worthy addition to the franchise.

Unfortunately, time is currently working against the film’s producers. If they’re unable to get the follow-up going, then the rights to the series will revert back to James Cameron. When and if it comes together, Paramount Pictures will reportedly distribute the flick.
