Chinatown bus crashes- 24 injured, three critically

One of New York City’s “Chinatown buses” has crashed in Atlantic City, and 24 passengers have been injured, three of them critically.

No fatalities have been reported, and the crash occurred at around 11:30 am on Route 40 at Albany Avenue and West End Avenue. The bus flipped over, and the bus driver was ejected during the accident. The injured passengers were taken to Atlantic City Medical Center’s Trauma Unit, and the passengers who escaped harm were transported to the Tropicana casino.

Traffic was “snarled” surrounding the scene of the accident until at least 12:30pm. Atlantic City Police Lt. Charles Love says the bus was owned and operated by Sun Lee Bus Co. Sun Lee is one of several bus lines that operate out of downtown Manhattan, with buses traveling daily to Atlantic City, Boston and Washington DC.

Fire Chief Dennis Brooks said the after the injured passengers were tended to, the Fire Department stabilized the scene.

“We stopped the fluids and got the engine shut off,” Brooks said. “We have it under control at this point.”
