A Texas mom didn’t take any flack from an armed robber who threatened her kids in her car. She threw him out and ran him over with her van.
Dorothy Baker was driving home with her two sons when a man named Ismael Martinez popped up from the back of her van, demanding $200. He wasn’t happy when Baker said she only had $20 in her account.
“And I told him I didn’t have that kind of cash, I had about $20 in my account, and he said I better figure out a way to get it, or my kids were going to get hurt,” Baker said.
When Baker ignored the man’s request to make a turn, he came at her with a knife. Luckily, she was able to rip the knife out of his hand and punch him in the face.
“And I told him to get the hell out of my car,” she said. “And he said ‘fine.’ He got out and started running and the next thing I thought was if he gets away he can do this to somebody else.”
Baker then ran Martinez over with her car before he could get away. “He kind of ‘zagged’ and I turned, intending to clip him in the side or something to get him to stop,” she said. “And I ended up running completely over him.”
A lot of people have praised Baker for doing what she did, but she doesn’t think it’s a big deal. “I see myself as a mom trying to protect her kids,” she said. “That’s it.”
Baker believes that Martinez got in her car during a stop at a Kroger food store. She said that she recognized him the moment she saw him in her van.
Martinez is currently stable in a hospital and no charges have been filed yet. He previously served timed for a 1976 rape conviction.
