Big 12 begins to crumble

The other NCAA Football Conferences are looking to raid the Big 12. The Big 12 does not generate the revenue of the other conferences so schools are eager to make a move. Of course once the Pac 10 and Big Ten become the Super Conferences they plan to be, there simply will not be any room for the Big 12 anymore. So here is a quick look at what we actually now:

While a lot of this is rumor it seems the Nebraska, after lobbying for a spot in the Big Ten, will make the move out of the Big 12 to become the 12th team in the Big Ten. It also looks like Colorado has accepted a invitation to join the Pac 10. Of course it was recently reported that last year the Big 12 generated 139 million dollars in revenue, while the SEC raked in over 209 million over the same time frame. With those numbers in mind we can see why schools want to leave, and the money each school gets is only going to go up.

There seems to be little doubt that the Big 12 will not survive this, but I don’t think everyone knows where each school will end up. There are lots of Texas rumors out there. Some have them, Texas A&M, and Texas Tech joining Colorado in the Pac 10. However it seems that there is a strong sentiment for Baylor to join the three Texas schools and move to a new conference together. Baylor has not been rumored to be joining the Pac 10.

Lost in all of this is Notre Dame. If the three Texas school and Baylor decide to stay together and bully their way into the Big 10, that would give the conference 16 teams and seemingly leave Notre Dame out in the cold. If I were running Notre Dame I would join the Big 10 as fast as I could. Otherwise the risk losing more of their nationally prominence as the day of the independent school is over.
