Japan getting Nintendo DSi price drops, new colors

Looks like Nintendo is preparing for the launch of the Nintendo 3DS, with prices of older Nintendo DSi models being chopped in Japan. Could a U.S. price drop follow soon? Let’s hope so! As much as I wuv Nintendo’s handhelds, I always reckoned the DSi and DSi XL were a smidge too pricey.

Nintendo Japan has announced that from June 19th, the DS Lite will drop from 16,800 yen (about $182) to “open pricing,” which allows retailers to name their price. On the same day, its immediate successor, the Nintendo DSi, goes from ¥18,900 to ¥15,000 (about $165).

The newest member of the family, the DSi LL (or DSi XL as it’s known in the west) falls from 20,000 yen to 18,000 ($196) too.

NOT ONLY THAT, but Nintendo’s releasing a bunch of shmexy new colors in Japan’s face, with yellow, green and blue consoles launching there on June 19th. And here probably never. *Sob*
