Vodafone To Get Google Nexus One On April 30th, Offer It For Free

Vodafone UK is now taking pre-orders for the Google Nexus One. The Android based device is set for an April 30th release date and customers willing to grab at least a £35 ($54) monthly plan with a two-year contract will receive the unit for free. A £25 ($39) plan with a two-year contract is also listed, however a price for the phone has yet to be shown.

The Vodafone Nexus One comes equipped with a 4GB microSD card, provides 1GB of 3G data per month and 1GB of BT’s Openzone Wi-Fi hotspots.

The unit also features a 3.7-inch AMOLED touchscreen, GPS capabilities and Wi-Fi.

To sell the units in Europe Google broke from their current standard practices which meant the phone would not only be sold through Google’s own portal. They’ve also received a leg up on the Apple iPhone 3GS which requires a £45 ($70) per month plan before it’s handed over without any cost to the customer.

Android’s second-largest market is Europe, so getting the Nexus One into Vodafone customers hands is a battle worth winning. [Electronista]
