2 Chainz Explains Why He Ran During Robbery

2 Chainz has broken his silence about being robbed in broad daylight in San Francisco last weekend.

In an extensive interview with Hot 107.9‘s Emperor Searcy, Mz Shyneka and Mister Smith, the rapper — born Tauheed Epps — detailed the frightening encounter.

“I saw the gun first,” he said. “It was like a .357. It was so heavy he couldn’t really hold it. The gun was so big. That’s what made me take off running.”

He added, “When I went into the street, there was another dude with a whole ‘nother gun. That’s when I knew it wasn’t like an episode of Punk’d. I was like this is real … I had bullet fragments in my hair … I think he thought he shot me.”

2 Chainz initially denied that he had been robbed, saying that the thief would have posted pictures of the stolen items. He also said that, when a rapper gets shot, he usually goes to the hospital or dies. However, the San Francisco Police Department confirmed that 2 Chainz had in fact been robbed, and that he was “a victim of a stolen wallet containing credit cards, US currency and a cell phone.”

Thursday, video footage surfaced of the robbery.

2 Chainz and his entourage are casually walking down the street when two men, one in a white shirt, and the other in a black hoodie, approach. The crew starts running and the gunmen chase them. 2 Chainz stumbles and falls to the ground, and one of the gunmen stands over him. Seconds later, the gunman in the black hoodie runs back up the street with something hidden underneath his clothes.

2 Chainz isn’t letting the incident scare him, however, and he said he is excited to be performing at Birthday Bash 18 Saturday.

“I’m just excited about life. I’m so turnt up, you can’t turn me down,” he said. “I’m just geeked about life. Then when I saw the footage, I’m like it was real. They was on my a**!’ This was a sign. That’s all it was. I come from this.”
