It has become kind of a thing for late night talk show host Jimmy Fallon to invite an A-list politician onto his program to “slow jam” the news. The latest politician to take part? Popular New Jersey governor Chris Christie.

Christie has been showing up everywhere lately, fueling rumors that he’s getting out there to do some early appearances for a possible 2016 run for president.

If that’s the case, then appearing on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to “slow jam” the news, one year after current president Barack Obama did the same on the NBC program, makes a lot of sense.

But 2016 didn’t really come up during Christie’s visit to Fallon’s show because “The Love Gov,” as he was affectionately nicknamed for the skit, has been playing super coy about his interest in running for president some day.

Heading into the 2008 election, Christie made it clear in no uncertain terms (and on multiple occasions) that he had no interest in joining the run for POTUS, and that he hadn’t really thought about it much for the not-too-distant future.

Lately, he’s been much more ambiguous, and a recent lap-band surgery was considered early evidence that he was prepping his public image (despite swearing on multiple occasions that he only did it for his health).

Still, the Garden State gov’s memorable appearance on Fallon Wednesday covered more local topics, including his state’s October 16 special election. Frank Lautenberg vacated his Senate seat (by dying) requiring an impromptu ballot-casting to fill his spot.

And of course, 2016 was at least teased. “Come on Jimmy, do you really think I’d come on this show to announce a presidential run?” Christie said.
