Lindsay Mills: Girlfriend Of NSA Whistleblower Edward Snowden ‘Lost’ Without Him

Lindsay Mills couldn’t be much different from her boyfriend, NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.

As the reclusive Snowden seeks asylum from prosecution after leaking details about a spying program that had the ability to look into the private lives of US citizens, his outgoing girlfriend has been thrust in the spotlight. Through a series of blog posts and social media messages a picture has emerged about Lindsay Mills, an outgoing and artistic 28-year-old.

Snowden left few traces of his life on the web, sharing little information online and leading what appeared to be a shuttered life. Mills even wrote about having to “kidnap” him to enjoy an outing with friends, and referred to Snowden as “my man of mystery.”

Neighbors in their Honolulu neighborhood also described Snowden as a recluse, keeping to himself and not sharing personal information with them.

Lindsay’s lifestyle appears to be quite a big differents. On her blog, “Lsjourney,” she refers to herself as a “world-traveling, pole-dancing superhero.” Shortly after Edward Snowden was revealed as the source of leaks to The Washington Post and Britain’s Guardian newspaper about the surveillance programs, Mills took the blog down.

Friend say Snowden kept from Lindsay Mills his decision to leak the classified records.

“I just talked to her,” said a friend of Mills’s in Hawaii. “I know she didn’t have any idea.”

Edward Snowden even went so far as to tell Mills he was going on secret business trips as he was actually putting the whistleblowing operation into effect.

After the attention placed on Snowden as he now considers seeking asylum, Lindsay Mills decided to take a step back from her public persona.

She wrote:

“For those of you that know me without my super hero cape, you can probably understand why I’ll be refraining from blog posts for awhile. My world has opened and closed all at once. Leaving me lost at sea without a compass. Surely there will be villainous pirates, distracting mermaids, and tides of change in this new open water chapter of my journey. But at the moment all I can feel is alone.”

But Mills also said she would remain strong, writing:

“And for the first time in my life I feel strong enough to be on my own. Though I never imagined my hand would be so forced. As I type this on my tear-streaked keyboard I’m reflecting on all the faces that have graced my path. The ones I laughed with. The ones I’ve held. The one I’ve grown to love the most. And the ones I never got to bid adieu. But sometimes life doesn’t afford proper goodbyes. In those unsure endings I find my strength, my true friends, and my heart’s song. A song that I thought had all but died away, when really it was softly singing all along. I don’t know what will happen from here. I don’t know how to feel normal. But I do know that I am loved, by myself and those around me. And no matter where my compass-less vessel will take me, that love will keep me buoyant.”

Lindsay Mills has not responded to requests for interviews, and has not said if she would join whistleblowing boyfriend Edward Snowden in exile.
