Army Base Shooting Suspect Identified, Alvin Roundtree Arrested

Authorities have charged Alvin Leon Roundtree, 51, with domestic violence after he shooting his common-law wife Monday afternoon during the Army base shooting at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio.

Sources say that Roundtree was arrested and charged with domestic violence Tuesday and still remains in federal custody.

The army base shooting occurred around 2:50 pm local time (CST), hurting an instructor at an Army medical training school, but no one else was injured.

Col. Randy Anderson stated that the altercation had begun as a conversation in his wife’s workplace at the Fort Sam Houston’s Army Medical Department Center and School, and, after moving the conversation outside of the building, the shooting occurred.

The reason for the argument between the two is still unknown, but San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said, “It was not a random shooting.”

Prosecutors have filed a federal criminal complaint against Roundtree. The complaint alleges that:

“The 51-year-old carried a .45 caliber pistol onto Fort Sam Houston on Monday and got into an argument with his wife, then shot her multiple times.”

Lucky for the victim, some of her co-workers were medical professionals and was given medical treatment immediately following the shooting.

From there, Roundtree ran from the scene in his car, only to be arrested by San Antonio police and handed over to the military police.

Sources say that the FBI has also been brought in to investigate the event.

Prosecutors have charged him with domestic violence and Roundtree is scheduled to appear before a federal magistrate on Thursday.

If convicted, Roundtree could face 20 years in prison along with a $250,000 fine.

His wife was reported to be “in a stable condition on Tuesday despite her multiple gunshot wounds. She is currently receiving medical care at San Antonio Military Medical Center, a statement from the U.S. attorney’s officer has reported.”

As of Tuesday, Alvin Roundtree will remain in federal custody for the Army base shooting.
