If you thought Kanye West’s upcoming Yeezus album debuted some pretty lame cover-art, you can have a chance to design it for yourself.
Okay, so it’s not official. Still, graphic design marketplace 99designs is holding an independent contest to create a cover design for Yeezus.
The leaked cover for Ye’s newest album shows the disk with a red tag reading “Yeezus.” Kanye showed the non-art on his Twitter account with the proclamation “OFFICIAL COVER,” the idea apparently being that the cover, as well as the entire album, reject the music industry as a whole (or something).
Anyway, fans were pretty underwhelmed, and the community of more than 230,000 designers that make up 99designs decided to kick in their recommendations for the album cover.
Sure, maybe they’re missing the point (we won’t really know until Yeezus comes out), but they’ve done it before with great success. Most recently, they asked designers to create Daft Punk posters, a contest which resulted in over 1,300 designs.
The contest is open through Wednesday, June 12, so there’s still some time to send your Yeezus sketch in for consideration. The winner of the contest (decided via public poll) will earn $500.
You can check out 99designs’ blog post announcing the contest, or check out the numerous submissions here. So far, there are about 150 entries, with hundreds (possibly thousands) expected in the week to come. You can check out some of our favorite submissions below.
What do you think? Does Kanye West’s Yeezus need new cover art? Which is your favorite fan submission thus far?
