Simon Cowell got a surprise egging by what appeared to be a backup musician during the Britain’s Got Talent Finale on Saturday. The 52-year-old was dodging eggs during the performance of Richard and Adam Johnson.
The opera brothers were singing a rendition of “The Impossible Dream,” which appeared in the 1965 musical, Man of La Mancha, but it all took a turn for the worst when backup violinist Natalie Holt made a beeline towards the front of the stage where she began pelting eggs at the judges.
The egging was not a planned part of the show, but Holt decided to carry out her attack, specifically targeting Cowell, before being dragged off the stage moments later. The Johnson brothers continued on with their song and they finished up quite well considering the odd incident that occurred.
“Natalie Holt (age 30) was part of the backing group for their performance, and as a result of her misguided actions the police were called,” a Britain’s Got Talent representative said in a statement about the egging. “However, we have decided to take no further action at this stage.”
Holt also spoke up about her egg attack on Simon Cowell and the other judges, though she only apologized to the performers.
“I want to apologize to Richard and Adam for overshadowing their performance,” she said in a statement. “I’ve never done anything like this before and in hindsight I have realized it was a silly thing to do.”
The entire ordeal created quite the scene during the act, and Cowell made a comment about a recent Twitter post once he had the chance to speak after the song ended.
“I tweeted yesterday that I didn’t like eggs,” he said after returning to his judging chair. “Now I really don’t like them.”
The television producer and executive wasn’t joking, and here’s the tweet to prove it.
@sallyfinestone I hate eggs
