1 in 3 Dads Lie About Having Kids On Dating Sites

With Father’s Day fast approaching, it’s normally a time to be proud about being a dad. What may come as a shock is that a recent survey showed that 1 in 3 dads lie about having kids on their dating site profiles.

The survey was conducted by dating site WhatsYourPrice.com – a dating service that operates on quite a different model to most others. Working a lot like a bidding house, there are users who place a bid involving real money to take another user out on a first date. This prospective first date (usually being the more attractive of the two parties) then decides whether to accept, decline or counter the offer.

According to WhatsYourPrice.com founder and CEO Brandon Wade, lying about age or income online are fairly common lies on the platform. But what the Father’s Day survey revealed is that of 2,500 male members, approximately 32 percent of them have previously lied about having kids. It’s normally those under 30 who try to hide their parenthood – of which 51 percent lied about having kids on the dating site.

With many of the younger fathers perhaps fearing rejection because of their children, Wade had this to say:

“Parenthood is very much celebrated in today’s society,” which is especially true when you consider the number of single parents today. “In fact, a man who has a kid before is actually looked upon as perhaps more mature and more able to sustain a real, committed relationship.”

The survey goes to show that lying about fatherhood may not be the best approach, often making men less attractive in the eyes of a potential partner. So, in celebration of Father’s Day, maybe all the single dads on dating sites could change their profile to show how proud they are of their kids.

Do you think dads need to lie about having kids on dating sites, or should they just be themselves?
