Rock Hudson Gay Confession Recorded By Wife

Rock Hudson may have been a lady’s man on the silver screen, and he may have been married, but the legendary actor was also gay.

The Hollywood Reporter recently uncovered a recording of the actor and his wife talking about Hudson’s homosexuality. Hudson’s wife, Phylis, was suspicious that her husband was gay and hired private eye Fred Otash to investigate. A recording of Rock coming out to his wife was recently uncovered by Otash’s daughter, Colleen.

Phylis apparently grew suspicious after she heard that Rock had been picking up boys at the bar. She grew even more worried when Rock took a Rorschach test and saw snakes in the ink blots.

Phylis said: “You told me you saw thousands of butterflies and also snakes … [A therapist] told me in my analysis that butterflies mean femininity and snakes represent that male penis. I’m not condemning you, but it seems that as long as you recognize your problem, you would want to do something about it.”

Rock Hudson seemingly comes out the closet during this exchange:

Rock: I told Dr. Rankin everything. I didn’t hedge on anything at all.
Phyllis: You mean about homo-sexuality?
Rock: Yes, I told him everything…
…Phyllis: Rock, your great speed with me, sexually. Are you that fast with boys?
Rock: Well, it’s a physical conjunction [sic]…Boys don’t fit. So, this is why it lasts longer.

Phylis eventually tried to convince Rock that homosexuality was just an “emotional state” and that he could work his way through it.

Phylis said: “There isn’t anything glandular about homosexuality, it is only freezing at an emotional state, and it’s up to the individual to grow out of it. Everyone has to help themselves, Rock.”

The NY Daily News reports that the revealing exchange between Hudson and his wife is just one of many interesting tidbits that was recently uncovered by Otash’s daughter. The Hollywood gumshoe reportedly spied on a number of famous people including Marilyn Monroe, Bette Davis and the Kennedy family. Otash also did some snooping on behalf of celebrities like Howard Hughes and Judy Garland.
