Nerf Gun School Physics Experiment By Teacher Gets Kids Suspended

A Nerf gun school experiment by a teacher got all the kids who participated suspended.

As previously reported by The Inquisitr, toy guns like Nerf guns became controversial after the Newtown shooting. A schoolyard game called “assassin” uses Nerf guns and is being banned all over the country.

The Nerf gun school experiment began with a class probability project that was approved by their Chase Lake Elementary School teacher. The idea was to test the effects of shooting the Nerf guns 100 times.

But the 12-year-old boy never had a chance to participate in the Nerf gun school experiment. The boys apparently got bored and shot the Nerf guns at school while waiting for the doors to open.

But all of the sixth graders involved in the Nerf gun school experiment were suspended, even students who did not bring a Nerf gun to school themselves. Because of the one day suspension the students will never be able to “take a high school algebra class or serve on the student council.” The Nerf gun suspension will also be permanently on their school records.

The suspension for the Nerf gun school physics experiment is part of a zero tolerance toy gun policy implemented by many principals across the nation. The students are of course “very upset” and so are their parents, who are appealing the decision.

Sschool district spokeswoman Amanda Ralston says, “It’s a matter of safety and it’s of the utmost importance. So even if it’s a toy, we take it seriously.”

In response, one the suspended student’s parents asks, “If the teacher and the school staff don’t even know their own rules, how are the children supposed to know them?”

Considering the Nerf gun school incident, do you think zero tolerance toy gun policies should be used as gun control rules?
