‘State Of Decay’ Now Available On Xbox Live Marketplace

State of Decay is now available for purchase on Xbox Live Marketplace.

Developed by the folks at Undead Labs, the third-person survival horror game pits players against an open world teeming with nasty flesh-eating zombies. The downloadable title became available for purchase on Wednesday (June 5).

State of Decay shares many similarities with the popular PC title DayZ. However, Undead Labs’ sprawling adventure doesn’t support multiplayer. If you’re looking to take on a world overflowing with zombies, then you’ll have to go it alone.

The game’s setup is pretty simple: Players team up with a variety of NPC characters to build a home base that’s used to store supplies. Getting the goods could be extremely dangerous; the world is filled with zombies, and all of them are interested in tearing you apart.

In order to locate supplies and ammunition, players will have to search every nook and cranny of the open world. However, death is lurking around every possible corner. When your character is taken down by zombies, it’s permanent. Instead of respawning somewhere else, the player assumes control of another survivor.

Here’s how the game is official described:

“The end is here. Life as you knew it has gone to hell after the mother of all zombie outbreaks. Now you and the few scattered survivors must band together to survive and rebuild in a 3rd-person action game set in a dynamic open world. You choose where to make your stand, designing and fortifying your home base, performing daring raids for food and ammunition, and rescuing other playable survivors with unique talents.”

Reviews for State of Decay have been pretty strong. The game currently sports a score of 81 over at Metacritic. Although the it reportedly has its share of problems, they apparently don’t derail the overall experience.

“By tying so many systems together with tough choices and the constant spectre of death hanging over it, Undead Labs has created something singular. Small complaints notwithstanding, State of Decay is one of the most cohesive, terrifying and engaging open-world games I’ve ever played,” Polygon wrote in its review of the title.

Should you decide to take the plunge, the game will set you back 1600 MS Points ($20). Make sure you have plenty of room for this zombie adventure, as the it will take up 1.81 GB on your hard drive.
