Lena Headey Tried To Comfort ‘Red Wedding’ Victims, But They Were Just Too Depressed [Video]

Game of Thrones fans have been mourning all week after Sunday’s “The Rains of Castamere” episode which depicted a gruesome event known as the “Red Wedding.” Actress Lena Headey, who plays Cersei Lannister on the show, stopped by Conan this week to talk a bit about the fallout among cast members following the shocking episode.

SPOILER ALERT: Obviously!

Sunday’s episode saw the deaths of Robb Stark (played by Richard Madden), Catelyn Stark (played by Michelle Fairley), Robb’s pregnant wife (Oona Chaplin), his direwolf and almost all of his bannermen, pretty much cinching the War of the Five Kings in favor of the odious but well-connected Lannisters.

While those with knowledge of George R. R. Martin’s novel series saw the “Red Wedding” coming, fans exclusive to the HBO show were outraged by the shocking and brutal twist that claimed the lives of so many beloved characters.

On Conan O’Brien’s show, Headey said that she attempted to reach out to Madden and Fairley after the episode aired.

“I rang Richard, who plays Robb, straight after and he said he hasn’t watched it, because he’s so upset to be leaving,” Headey said. “And then I spoke to Michelle Fairley, who said weirdly she was in the doctor’s with a throat infection.”

Headey joked that it was “kind of mimicking life and art” since Fairley’s throat was slashed at the end of the episode.

As for Headey’s much-hated character Cersei, the actress admits that someday she fears she’ll suffer the same fate

On Twitter, Headey admitted that she was nervous about the interview with Conan, but boasted that it gave her an opportunity to meet Nick Offerman of Parks & Recreation.
