Roy Hibbert Swears, Uses Gay Slur In Postgame Press Conference

Roy Hibbert used a gay slur and cursed during a bizarre press conference following the Indiana Pacers win in Game 6.

The Pacers center responded to a question about his defense on LeBron James by saying “no homo,” which some are interpreting as a gay slur. Hibbert also swore when asked by a reporter why he finished so low in the NBA Defensive Player of Year voting.

Hibbert said it was “because y’all (expletive) don’t watch us play throughout the year, to tell you the truth.”

Hibbert was a big factor in the Pacers’ 91-77 win win in Game 6, forcing a pivotal Game 7. With Heat center Chris “Birdman” Andersen suspended by the NBA for shoving Pacers forward Tyler Hansbrough in Game 5, Hibbert dominated as the Pacers beat up the Heat inside. He finished with 24 points and 11 rebounds, also playing stellar defense.

Midway through the fourth quarter, Hibbert contested a shot from LeBron James, drawing an offensive foul. LeBron sprinted to the other end of the court, drawing a technical foul that allowed the Pacers to solidify their lead.

“Myself and David (West), we throw ourselves in the fray, in the paint. We like to muck it up,” Hibbert said. “Paul and myself, we wanted to make sure we got this for him as well. We didn’t want this to be our last game.”.

Without Andersen on the inside, the Pacers out-rebounded the Heat 53-33 and outscored them in the paint 44-22.

Pacers coach Frank Vogel thinks Hibbert has been the difference in the season so far.

“Roy Hibbert is making extraordinary plays in the pocket, poise in the pocket we call it,” Vogel said. “He’s getting paint catches and just having great poise, great reads. He’s not plowing over guys. He had a charge in Game 5, but has been under control.”

During his postgame press conference, Roy Hibbert said he didn’t care if he got fined for his comments.
