Nicki Minaj Confirms Departure From ‘American Idol’

Nicki Minaj has confirmed her departure from American Idol.

The rapper said she was leaving the show so she could start focusing more on music. As with most major celebrity announcements these days, Minaj decided to share the information on Twitter.

American Idol producer FremantleMedia and the folks at FOX have wished Minaj the best on her upcoming endeavors.

“Nicki Minaj is a superstar who brought a level of honesty and passion to American Idol and who had a tremendous positive impact on so many contestants this season. Given her extremely busy career, we understand and respect her decision and wish her the best,” producers said in a statement.

Although Nicki Minaj officially confirmed her decision to leave American Idol behind, it doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Rumors have been swirling for quite some time that most of the judges on this season of the competition would be heading off into the proverbial sunset.

Randy Jackson revealed before the finale that he wouldn’t be returning for another go-around. The Inquisitr previously reported that Mariah Carey’s departure is pretty much a done deal. Although the singer hasn’t confirmed these reports herself, Carey’s exit is happening.

It’s still unknown if Keith Urban will return for the next season of American Idol. During a recent interview, the country music star said he had no idea if he was coming back.

“I’m pretty much in the same boat as everybody else here with the rumors that have been floating around. I don’t know anything more about what’s happening next season. It was like this before I signed on, so it’s not unusual for the ‘Idol’ folks to be in this place of figuring out what they want to do, then they always pull it together,” he said.
