Michael Jordan To Cowboys WR Dez Bryant: ‘Stay Out Of Trouble’

Michael Jordan gave Dez Bryant some advice before the NFL offseason this year, and it seems to be sinking in with the former Oklahoma State standout. Bryant signed with the Jordan Brand after the NBA All-Star weekend in February, and when you’re representing Michael Jordan’s apparel group, you tend to listen to the most influential athlete of all-time.

Jordan had one simple request of the 24-year-old as he prepares for the 2014 season, and Bryant apparently is ready to make his newest sponsor proud.

“The only thing he told me was ‘stay out of trouble,’ ” Bryant said on Tuesday, via Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com. “Hearing it come from him … He is a strong voice. His opinion matters.”

Bryant attended Michael Jordan’s birthday party in Houston that weekend in February, and some time after he walked away as the brand’s seventh NFL player.

He now has to impress possibly the greatest figure in the history of sports, but Bryant seems to be up to the task. To prove he’s beyond his off the field struggles in the past, Bryant won’t receive payment for his new deal with the Jordan Brand for the first year. If he can stay out of trouble, which he’s determined to do, the Cowboys’ wideout will receive his salary from the brand in the second year.

“It just adds fuel to trying to do things great at all times,” Bryant said about the deal. “That’s something you don’t want to mess up. Now, I do pay attention to that, just because of the fact of who he is and what he is about. Everybody knows Michael Jordan is about his business, so that make you want to be about yours.”

So far, the former All-American has stayed out of trouble, and it’s almost a guarantee that Jordan is paying attention. Do you believe Dez Bryant will continue to stay out of trouble and impress Michael Jordan to erase any doubt from his past mistakes?
