Twitter Hacker Pwnd By French Police

“Hacker Croll,” the French hacker who leaked confidential business files from Twitter to TechCrunch last year has been arrested by French police.

The hacker, who also gained access to the Twitter accounts of Barack Obama and other celebrities, was arrested following a joint investigation by French Police and the FBI.

AFP reports that finding the hacker wasn’t a particularly difficult task: Croll had set up a blog to share his expoits with others.

ReadWriteWeb reports that he has since been released (presumably on bail) after telling police that he had guessed passwords, and police decided he “wasn’t a genius.” As Marshall points out at RWW, the arrest will reopen discussion on the decision by TechCrunch to publish the stolen Twitter documentation last year.
