Everett Golson Suspended For Poor Academic Judgement, Plans Return For 2014

Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson had the college football spotlight this week, but for all the wrong reasons. The 20-year-old was a hot topic yesterday after he reportedly left the university for an academic violation, and he cleared up the issue on Sunday in a letter released by the school.

“I have been informed by the University of Notre Dame that due to my poor academic judgment that I have been suspended from the University for the 2013 Fall Term,” Golson said about his departure from the school. “I take full responsibility for my poor choices and will do all that is asked of me to regain the trust of my family, friends, teammates, coaches and the entire Notre Dame community.”

University spokesman Dennis Brown broke the news on Saturday night that the young quarterback was officially no longer enrolled at Notre Dame as of Friday. Though Everett Golson’s suspended and won’t be on the field this year, he understands the affect his poor judgement can have on his image. He also plans on returning to the team in 2014 to try and regain his starting role behind center.

“At this point, I understand how my integrity could be in question but I want to reassure my supporters that through this experience I will return a better student athlete as well as a better individual,” Golson added. “Lastly, I want to thank the University of Notre Dame for the opportunity already granted and also the opportunity going forth to regain my eligibility in the winter of 2014.”

The young man handled his apology with class, though it’s hard to understand why he didn’t take care of business in the classroom in the first place. The Fighting Irish need him on the field, but they are now forced to scramble for a starting quarterback this summer.

Everett Golson led Notre Dame to the National Championship last year as a freshman and the team was in line to contend again in 2013-14. Their road to redemption just got a little longer, and there’s still three months before the first kickoff of the season.

Will Notre Dame struggle to remain a top contender this upcoming season with Everett Golson suspended?
