Morgan Freeman: I Wasn’t Sleeping During Interview, I Was Checking ‘Google Eyes’

Morgan Freeman seems to have a sense of humor after nodding off during an interview.

While doing press for the New York premiere of his new movie Now You Can See, Freeman was scheduled for a full day of interviews. During his appearance for Fox’s Seattle-Tacoma affiliate, Morgan Freeman appeared to fall asleep as fellow actor Michael Caine talked about magic (which is central to the plot of the film).

Caine didn’t seem to notice too much, glancing briefly at Freeman as he praised the special effects used in the film. The interviewers eventually cut to scenes from Now You See Me, but, when they returned Morgan Freeman was still napping, his chin drooped against his chest.

When asked about the incident, Freeman was quick with an explanation..

“I wasn’t actually sleeping. I’m a beta tester for Google Eyelids,” he joked. “I was merely taking the opportunity to update my Facebook page.”

In a later interview, Freeman acknowledged that it had been a tiring press event, saying: “This business, it’s exhausting.”

The plot of Now You See Me sounds a bit more exciting. The crime thriller tells the story of an FBI agent and an Interpol detective who team up to investigate a group of illusionists who use their skills to rob banks.

The tagline for the film makes it sound even more exciting: “3 impossible heists. 1 billion dollars. This is no illusion. Look closely, because the closer you think you are, the less you will actually see…Now you don’t.”

The interview may have been a bit embarrassing for Morgan Freeman, but at least it can help settle pesky rumors of his demise. Last year a fake memorial page was created, prompting many news outlets to report that he died and bringing an outpouring of condolences from gullible fans.

Morgan Freeman would later say he found the whole ordeal funny.
