Toby Jones Discusses ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’

Toby Jones, who plays one of the villains in original Captain America film, has been discussing his return to the franchise.

Jones, who played Arnim Zola, a Nazi scientist who assisted the Red Skull in the first film, has alluded that his character will be very different than the original incarnation.

“All I can say about it is that I was pleased to be brought back,” remarked Jones. “I thought I might be – because you’d know better than I do – but Zola finds a way to defeat time, and you won’t be disappointed with the way that’s been treated in the film.”

Previously, Anthony Mackie, who stars as Sam Wilson and Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which is due out in April 2014, also discussed the film, stating, “This movie has kind of become Avengers 1.5. If you look at the cast they’ve put together, if you look at the number of characters that are in this movie.”

He then went on to add, “It’s a huge number of superheroes and characters. The basic idea is that you have Captain America, Black Widow, and Falcon that get together to take down the Winter Solider.”

Mackie also hopes to star in The Avengers 2, remarking when asked, “I hope so. I hope. I don’t know if I’m in Avengers 2 yet, but if I am, I’m definitely going to do my damnedest to try.”

Mackie is clearly proud of the role, stating of his importance, “I’m playing the Falcon. He’s this guy in Harlem who moved to California and became a drug dealer. His place crashed, and he was genetically altered, and he can fly, has telepathic powers.”

He went on to add,”He’s the first African-American superhero. It makes me feel all the work I’ve done has been paying off. I have a son, nephews, and nieces, and I love the idea that they can dress up as the Falcon on Halloween. They now have someone they can idolize. That’s a huge honor for me.”
