Keith Richards Faces Huge Library Fines For Overdue Books

Stop the presses! Forget about Jose Canseco being accused of rape. Don’t even bother checking out topless photos of Miranda Kerr. This is by the biggest story of the day. Keith Richards owes his public library thousands of dollars in late fines.

The Rolling Stones rocker admitted today that he checked out a couple of books from his local library 50 years ago and has never returned them. Richards doesn’t know for sure but said that he probably owes the library thousands.

Richards said: “I’ve still got overdue fines from about 50 years ago. They must be astronomical by now.”

According to the Mirror, Richards will face a few angry librarians in Dartford, Kent if he doesn’t pay up. The library hasn’t contacted Richards about the rocker’s debt and probably hasn’t thought about it for the last few decades.

Still, Richards said that he felt bad about disrespecting the library. The music legend said that the public library was the only place that he “willingly obeyed the laws” during his rebellious teen years.

Richards said: “To me it was a place where you get a hint there was somewhere called civilization … It was the only place where I would willingly obey the laws, like silence. It was somewhere I could find out about things I was interested in.”

If Keith Richards does decide to pay off his library debts he won’t have to dip too far into his savings. Richards has an estimated fortune of about $250 million and he’ll be adding to that total this year with a new Rolling Stones tour.
