Chinese actress Li Bingbing is now a part of the Transformers 4 cast.

The Resident Evil: Retribution alum is the first Chinese thespian to sign on for Michael Bay's upcoming sequel. Although Li landed her role through old-fashioned casting, she will be joined by other actors and actress who are preparing to take part in an upcoming reality series.

The cast is slowly starting to flesh out as production begins creeping into gear. Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor, Nicola Peltz, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, and Sophia Myles have already been tapped for the project.

Naturally, director Michael Bay decided to weigh in Li Bingbing's involvement with Transformers 4. According to the filmmaker, he's nothing short of thrilled to be working with the actress.

"I am excited to have Li Bingbing join our cast and to be shooting portions of the movie in her native China. I have always aspired to work with the best actors and this cast is especially exciting now with the addition of Li," he explained.

The director also told Collider that the big-budget sequel would feature a "chase from hell." Besides that, very little is actually known about the project as of this writing. Chances are Bay will start leaking details once filming gets underway.

Quite a bit of Transformers 4 will be shot in China. Since the sequel is being co-funded with Chinese money, Bay has agreed to use the country as the backdrop for several scenes. Additionally, the director will search for extras through a reality series scheduled to air this summer.

Transformers 4 Chinese Actors Talent Search Reality Show, which is the literal translation of the title, will allow amateurs and professionals alike to try out for a role in the film. Although it might be a blink-and-you'll-miss-it part, at least the winners can say they were there.
