‘Star Trek’ Tops ‘Iron Man’ At Box Office


Iron Man 3 has finally fallen from the top of the box office. The Robert Downey Jr. movie, which recently topped $1 billion worldwide, was topped this weekend by J.J. Abrams latest movie, Star Trek Into Darkness.

According to Forbes, the latest Star Trek movie took in more $84 million during its opening weekend.

Captain Kirk managed to top the box office this weekend but the movie didn’t quite live up to its expectations. J.J. Abrams first Star Trek movie made $75 million during its opening weekend and Paramount was hoping that the sequel would top $100 million during its first few days in theaters.

Box Office Mojo notes that Abrams first Star Trek movie went on to gross more than $250 million.

Iron Man 3 fell from the top spot this weekend but the new Marvel movie is still bringing people to the theaters. Iron Man 3 took in another $35 million this weekend at the domestic box office to bring its worldwide total up to $1.073 billion.

The Great Gatsby was third on the box office charts this weekend with $23.4 million. The movie based on F. Scott Fitzgerald’s book was a surprise hit at the box office after receiving poor reviews but the movie is losing some of its draw. The audience dropped 53% for Gatsby this weekend.
