Actress and comedienne Mo’Nique dramatically altered her lifestyle months ago with intense, daily workouts, and it appears to be paying off for the 45-year-old Precious star.
In a recent interview on New York’s Hot 97, she explained her impressive 80 pound weight loss, but admitted that she still has a ways to go before she hits her goal weight (she is currently 218, but wants to be between 190 and 200).
She also talked a bit about how she is using Twitter to track her progress and keep herself accountable.
“I tweet every morning my workouts because I want women to see — especially us big women — that you don’t have to let them cut you and suck it out, you don’t have to let them staple you up, you don’t have to let them give you a pill, you don’t have to let them put a band around your organs. If you just put the work in, baby, I promise you, it’ll come off,” she said.
Mo’Nique has been lifting weights, running, doing yoga and playing basketball to drop weight and build strength. She also said on Twitter that she has taken a minimum of 10,000 steps, and that she does 50 sit-ups every day.
Her Twitter is also filled with encouraging messages to others who want to get healthy but for whatever reason haven’t been able to find the motivation.
“We can always get a quick fix. However what will be the long term effects,” she posted Wednesday. “Do it naturally, benefits . . . PRICELESS.”
Mo’Nique also admitted that it was her husband, Sidney Hicks, who encouraged her to get healthy and exercise.
“It made me say [to myself], ‘OK, sis, you got these babies. The twins [Jonathan and David] are 7, [stepson] Michael’s 9, Shalon’s 22.’ And I want to meet their babies. So, I said, ‘Let me stop being selfish, and eating everything.’ And I ate everything. … I was a food junkie,” she admits.
