Huntington Beach, CA – A man was brutally beaten with skateboards while trying to break up a fight on Friday evening.
Authorities explained that the teenagers who attacked the by-stander could face attempted murder charges as a result of the assault. The victim was critically injured by the kids during the incident.
A woman and her boyfriend were near the Huntington Beach skate park when the fight broke out. After the woman attempted to stop the kids from hurting one another, the group turned their attention to her.
In an effort to save his girlfriend, the 25-year-old man attempted to intervene. He was soon chased to a coin laundry in the area and savagely beaten with skateboards by the teenagers. He was listed in critical condition as of Monday (May 13).
Although seven teenagers were picked up by police, only four of them were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Since the suspects are minors, their names have not been released to the public.
The father of one of the kids charged in the beating says that his 15-year-old son is innocent. He told KTLA that the boy was only trying to defend himself from the 25-year-old man during the fight at the skate park.
According to the father, the man was running through the area with a screwdriver. He reportedly attempted to stab the teenagers before they attacked him with their skateboards.
“The man came trying to stab him. He ran from the man,” he explained.
His story is a little different than the one reported by police. Reports suggest that the man was simply trying to protect his girlfriend from the gang of teenagers when the beating took place at Surf City Coin Laundry. As a result of his injuries, the man was rushed to UCI Medical Center for emergency surgery.
