Chloe Moretz Offered Lead Role In ‘The Equalizer’

Chloe Moretz has been offered the female lead in the upcoming big-screen adaptation of The Equalizer.

The young actress recent did a chemistry reading with star Denzel Washington. Sources close to the project told Deadline that the actors worked incredibly well together. In order to make the role more tailored for Moretz’s age, the character is being rewritten as a teenage prostitute.

Reports suggest the part offered to the Kick-Ass star was originally written for a 20-year-old. Since Moretz recently turned 16, certain aspects will need to be altered in order for everything to work.

Acclaimed actor director Antoine Fuqua will step behind the camera for The Equalizer. The filmmaker became involved with the movie after Nicolas Winding Refn decided to drop out due to creative differences with Washington.

Reports suggested that Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt would take over the reins after Refn quit the project. However, the production would later end up in the very capable hands of Fuqua.

Although a deal has yet to be made, it’s believed that Chloe Moretz will sign on for the role in The Equalizer. Since everything in Hollywood is balanced on the edge of a knife, nothing is in the bag until the proverbial ink has dried on the contracts.

Fans of the actress will have plenty of movies to choose from over the next year. In addition to Kick-Ass 2 and the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie, Moretz is slated to appear in a number of projects. Included in the list are Tim Robbins’ Man Under, Dark Places with Charlize Theron, and the animated feature Trolls.

Director Jeff Wadlow’s Kick-Ass sequel is currently slated to arrive in theaters on August 16. Carrie will arrive just a few weeks later; the horror flick is scheduled for release on October 18.
