2009 NFL season in review: Philadelphia Eagles

In 2009 they were the last team to not survive the Wild Car Round. With an 11-5 record they won their division, but a blow out loss to division rival Dallas in the first round of the playoffs did not leave them with a warm feeling in their bellies. In fact we may see big changes on the Eagles roster for 2010. They have already released RB Brian Westbrook in favor for 21 year old RB LeSean McCoy. There might also be a change at the Eagles QB brewing, as it may be time to turn over the Eagles offense to Kevin Kolb.

In 2009 the Eagles offense scored 429 points, or 26.8 points per game that was good enough for the fifth best NFL offense of 2009. QB Donovan McNabb threw for 3,553 yards, 22 touch downs, with just 10 interceptions. He completed 60.3% of his passes and the main argument for replacing him is his age (33), and the perception that he has taken this team has far as he can. On the ground the team ran for 1,637 yards led by McCoy and his 637 yards.

The Eagles defense gave up 337 points or 21.1 points per game. That is a little to high and suggests a lot of the work this team lie on this side of the ball. They gave up 3,778 yards through the air and 1,675 yards on the ground. It seems the loss of Safety Brian Dawkins really hurt this team, and adding a DE to establish a stronger pass rush on top of adding a safety to their secondary will be their priorities in the upcoming NFL draft.
