‘Biggest Loser’ Divorce Announced Despite Baby On The Way

A Biggest Loser divorce between Sam Poueu and Stephanie Anderson has fans of the NBC reality show scratching their heads. In a statement to People, Anderson said not much of anything at all except that the couple had decided to split:

“It is with great sadness that my marriage to Sam Poueu is ending. Thank you in advance for respecting our privacy during this difficult time.”

I’m not sure why we’re supposed to respect the privacy of two people who met on the ninth season of a TV reality show and put their whole relationship out there in front of the fans in the first place.

They met in 2009. He weighed 372 pounds and she weighed 264 at the beginning of the weight-loss competition. They were well-liked by fans, especially when she accepted his marriage proposal during a special Oct. 2010 episode of Biggest Loser.

Sam Poueu and Stephanie Anderson ultimately got married in April 2012 in San Francisco.

In 2011 Poueu fell from a four story roof and suffered serious injuries that required him to spend nine months in recovery. The brush with mortality apparently made him decide that he was ready for children. Anderson has admitted that it was in the aftermath of his recovery that Poueu said that he wanted to make the commitment to grow old with her and father her children.

However, if the whole marriage was actually something of a publicity stunt in the first place, the baby — expected to arrive in July — will be coming into a difficult situation.

On the other hand, at last report, no actual court papers had yet been filed. Maybe it’s the divorce that’s the attention-whoring stunt. A cynical person might be wondering if the pair is angling for a new reality show. After all, how often do you seek privacy by giving an interview to People magazine?
