Biggest Loser Divorce Announced: Two Contestants Split Up
A Biggest Loser divorce is on the horizon for fan favorites Sam Poueu and Stephanie Anderson.
The couple who met as contestants on the NBC reality show in season 9 are going their separate ways even though they are expecting a baby in July
In a statement, Stephanie Anderson announced the end of the marriage: “It is with great sadness that my marriage to Sam Poueu is ending. Thank you in advance for respecting our privacy during this difficult time.”
The couple’s nuptials occurred in April 2012 in San Francisco after Poueu proposed to Anderson during an episode that aired in October 2010. Poueu fell off a roof of four-story building in September 2011 and was severely injured, and the couple stayed together during his difficult nine-month long recuperation as Stephanie helped nurse Sam back to health.
Evidently a big fat wedding, so to speak, wasn’t enough to sustain the relationship.
No legal papers have yet been filed to dissolve the marriage, but evidently a court filing is imminent.
The weight-loss reality show premiered on NBC in September 2004 and recently completed its 14th season.The show features obese people competing to win a cash prize by losing the highest percentage of weight relative to their initial weight. Spin-offs and variations of The Biggest Loser are popular with TV viewers all over the world.
Some fans have the show are disheartened by the breakup between Sam and Stephanie: “This is truly a sad day for Biggest Loser fans. We watched Sam and Stephanie fall in love on the ranch back in season 9, and then get engaged during the holiday special the following year. In September 2011, Sam fell from a roof at a party, leaving him with serious injuries. Stephanie stuck by his side, and the pair wed in April 2012 much to fans’ delight … Considering everything they have been through, and how happy they have seemed in the past, we can’t help but wonder what went wrong?”
