Because he didn't know a whole lot about Gomez prior to the start of production on Only Murders in the Building with Short, Martin decided to do some research.

"I looked her up on the internet and I realized at 28 she had done as many movies as I had,” Martin told Stern. “We hit it off really well, almost immediately. Then as the series went on we developed that kind of rapport on the set that you want so badly."

Martin continued to gush over Gomez, saying that while she may be known as a “pop diva,” she was an absolute pro" on the set of his new project with Short.

As for Short, he enjoyed the "happy" vibes Gomez brought with her when she showed up to filming each day.

“When we met Selena the first day of shooting, right away you knew she wanted to keep a joyful, loose, happy set,” he explained to the SiriusXM radio host.

During one particular moment on the set of Martin and Short's Only Murders in the Building, Gomez approached the comedians to see if they had heard Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion's very racy song, “WAP."

“She just came up and said, ‘Do you know this song?’” Martin recalled. “Now, I knew songs existed that were very frank … but I didn’t know they were number one.”

“What was the other song?” Martin asked Short. “’You’re a F**king Ho’? She would sing it and we would laugh."

After Gomez came under fire for saying she signed over her life to Disney at a young age and didn't know what she was doing, Martin made it clear in a new press conference that she didn't make the comment in a disparaging way.

"I was there when Selena said that and it was said in the most light-hearted, funny, jokey way. And then I see it gets interpreted – sometimes they'll say she was joking and sometimes they have it as an ominous headline – but it was completely just all in fun," he insisted, via Radio Times.

Only Murders In The Building premiered on August 31, 2021 on Hulu.
