Washington Wizards point guard Russell Westbrook is expected to be the subject of trade rumors in the 2021 offseason. The Wizards may have managed to reach the playoffs, but they still don't seem close to becoming a legitimate title contender. Some believe that they could explore the possibility of tearing their roster down and undergoing a full-scale rebuild this summer.

If the Wizards decide to move Bradley Beal, they no longer have any reason to keep Westbrook on their roster.

Despite his lucrative contract, Westbrook is still expected to receive a strong interest if the Wizards make him available on the trading block this summer. One of the teams that may consider trading for Westbrook is the Orlando Magic. In a recent article, Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report included the Westbrook-to-Orlando deal on his list of trade ideas to save lottery teams like the Magic from another "playoff whiff" in the 2021-22 NBA season.

In the proposed trade scenario, the Magic would acquire Westbrook from the Wizards by sending them a package that includes Markelle Fultz and Gary Harris.

The proposed trade deal would make a lot of sense for the Magic if they want to become a competitive team in the Eastern Conference next year. Though he won't instantly make them a title contender, Swartz believes that adding Westbrook to the current Magic core would give them a realistic chance of returning to the playoffs in the 2021-22 NBA season.

"Although the Magic just traded away Nikola Vucevic, the return of Jonathan Isaac next season combined with Terrence Ross, Wendell Carter Jr., Cole Anthony, Mo Bamba and R.J. Hampton could mean a quick return to the playoffs with Westbrook on board."

Russell Westbrook's On-Court Impact On Magic

Westbrook would undeniably be an incredible addition to the Magic. By bringing him to Orlando, the Magic would be having one of the best active point guards in the league and a walking triple-double machine. Westbrook's arrival is expected to bolster the Magic's offense and defense, giving them a prolific scorer, great rebounder, playmaker, perimeter defender, and floor-spacer.

This season, the 32-year-old point guard averaged 22.2 points, 11.5 rebounds, 11.7 assists, and 1.4 steals while shooting 43.9 percent from the field and 31.5 percent from beyond the arc, per ESPN.

The suggested deal would only be beneficial for the Wizards if they finally decide to take a different route. Aside from dumping Westbrook's massive salary on Orlando without sacrificing a future first-round pick, the proposed trade would also allow them to add a young and promising talent in Fultz, the former No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft.

Fultz may have spent the past years dealing with multiple injuries but if he regains full health, he could serve as the Wizards' point guard of the future in the post-Beal era.
