Fix the Franchise: Cleveland Browns edition

While it seems owner Randy Learner has hired some front office types to give his team some credibility, and who are able to build a winning franchise, I have to say there is a lot of work to do. In my mind The Browns have got to figure out who their QB is. It could be Brady Quinn, or Derek Anderson, or a player not yet on the Browns roster, but a decision has to be made, and one someone has to step out front and be the face of this franchise.

For a little while Browns fans, really and Football fans will allow Mike Holmgren to be the face of the franchise, but he will not be all that visible once the season starts, he will just be a guy in the luxury box, and this team needs a leader on the field. Ideally that leader would be a franchise QB, but really anyone player on the roster, or about to be drafted would do the trick.

The Browns got it pretty easy, they don’t need to win, and they just need to compete for wins to satisfy their fan base. Being competitive is a lot easier than having to win playoff games to keep the fans interested. This is a fan base that rooted for Bernie Kosar, even with that goofy stance and crazy delivery. What I am saying is the Browns need a guy their fan base can get behind.

I personally do not think that any one player on the Browns roster currently is that guy. Each of their players has a flaw, or at least a perceived flaw, to their public persona. With the seventh pick in the 2010 NFL draft they need to find that guy. Most mock drafts to this point have them taking CB Joe Haden from Florida. He is the only blue chip CB prospect, and could be the shutdown corner, and face of the franchise this team so desperately needs.
