Bayern Munich Manager Ecstatic With Champions League Win Over Barcelona

Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes was overjoyed with his team’s superb 3-0 win over Barcelona in the second leg of the Champions League semi-finals at Camp Nou on Wednesday night.

The comprehensive triumph completes a 7-0 aggregate victory over the Spanish Liga juggernauts and sends the Germans to the final of Europe’s most prestigious club competition for the third time in the last four years.

Heynckes, who won the tournament with Real Madrid in 1998, was proud of his side’s display and hailed the emphatic scoreline.

“I think it was clear that my team entered this game extremely focused,” he said. “We played great right from the start.”

Barca was without its talisman Lionel Messi, who sat on the bench with a thigh injury, but no one could have predicted the way the Liga leaders were manhandled at home.

Heynckes acknowledged the absence of Messi but hailed his team for what was a very disciplined performance.

“There’s no denying that Barcelona are a different team without Messi. My team understood our tactical approach very well and they executed it perfectly.”

Bayern will now face Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League final after it beat Real Madrid 4-3 on aggregate on Tuesday evening.

Heynckes is excited at the prospect of meeting another German club in the showpiece event at Wembley Stadium later in May but confessed that the players will savor this win tonight.

‘Dortmund deserve to be in the final as it is having a great year as well. We will now reflect on what we have done and enjoy the moment.”

The Bayern Munich manager knows that the job is not yet complete as the Bavarians lost to Inter at the final hurdle in the Champions League in 2010 before dropping last season’s final to Chelsea at the Allianz Arena in front of its home supporters.
